Due to these load bearing walls coming down, we had to have plans drawn up to satisfy the weight will be supported in the attic and ceiling. In October we started and got them submitted before the Christmas furlough at the City. Our building permit was approved a couple of months ago. We had several bids for the job and found a contractor (Robert) who starts Tuesday, May 27th. This weekend (Memorial Day weekend), Ray and I will be boxing up everything in the laundry room, kitchen and family room and finding new homes for them in the interim.
Our cabinets will be custom built by Chris (smiling below) and we are going with alder wood with a HERITAGE CHERRY MOHAWK stain. We stopped by the shop that does their finishing and took a picture of an alder wood door (left and I just realized upside down, LOL) and the stain color we want on the cherry door on the right. The stain should be like the dark color on the door on the right as alder is a softer wood and soaks up the color more..which we like. The flooring in all three rooms will be Wilson Arts laminate called BLACK CHERRY. You can see a tile of it under the cabinet doors in the picture.

The granite we're thinking about is called TYPHOON BORDEAUX which is light and will reflect the light..but also has the black, reds and beiges we want to pull out.
